A digital adapter is a converter that allows viewing of digital television services through devices that normally would not allow digital signals. Time Warner Cable requires a digital adapter in some areas for customers that plug their cable line directly into a television, VCR, DVD player or a similar device.
A digital adapter allows viewers to access digitally delivered channels, such as public access, educational access or government access channels. Customers are not required to use digital adapters if they plug their cable lines directly into their Time Warner Cable set-top boxes, retail CableCARD or Roku devices.
The adapter is approximately the size of a deck of cards and is delivered within two to five business days free of charge; however, the retail price is $2.75 per month, as of 2015. Adapters are ordered by contacting Time Warner Cable by phone or online when ordering new television service.
Set up is easy and only requires a few steps. Power off the television and connect the adapter to the cable outlet. Connect the adapter to the television, VCR or DVD, and then choose the output channel to either HDMI, channel 3 or channel 4. Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet.
