Although Microsoft Word is the major player in the word processor market as of 2014, other word processors are available, including Google Docs, OpenOffice Writer and Lotus Word Pro. Google Docs is an online word processor and utilizes cloud storage to enable individuals to access files from an Internet-enabled computer.

According to Microsoft, over 500 million people used its Office products, which include Word, in 2009. Google Docs is free, and OpenOffice Writer is both free and open-source. OpenOffice Writer is similar to Microsoft Word in style. Although it is free, OpenOffice Writer takes longer to launch and to open large documents as of 2014, according to an article for the Houston Chronicle.
