Youth, high school and college wrestlers wear uniforms called singlets. These uniforms resemble women's one-piece swimsuits. The difference between the two is in the length and the dip of the neckline, which is dependent upon the style of wrestling in which the wearer participates.

Wrestlers also wear heel-less shoes with flexible soles that extend past the ankle. The laces must be covered for safety reasons. Headgear is also required, especially in youth wrestling, to protect the ears from damage. Adult wrestlers are usually not required to wear headgear during matches. Other accessories that may be required as part of a wrestling uniform include mouth guards and head coverings to keep long hair under control.
