A Basenji-mix dog looks like a combination of the Basenji breed and whatever other breed the animal's bloodline contains. The Basenji breed has unique characteristics that may or may not be dominant when it is mixed with other breeds.

If the Basenji breed is dominant, the dog may have a fine, short coat. Common coat colors include chestnut-red, black, a tri-color consisting of black, white and chestnut or a brindle of black stripes on a chestnut background. This mixed-breed dog may have all-white feet or a blaze of white between its eyes. A Basenji mix may also have a white-tipped tail or a white collar around its neck.
