At least 50 percent of a Quaker parrot's diet typically includes a pellet-based mix. The rest is supplemented by a variety of seeds and fresh, unseasoned fruits and vegetables. In the wild, the birds usually eat plant buds, fruits and berries.

Premium pellet mixes geared for the dietary needs of Quaker parrots are generally combined with a lesser quantity of low-fat seed. Sunflower and pumpkin seeds should be fed sparingly as treats only, as they are high in fat. Common fruits and vegetables to feed to Quaker parrots include apples, broccoli, carrots, celery, corn, green beans, lettuce, oranges, pears and peas. Foods that should be avoided include avocados, chocolate, fatty and salty foods, and fruits and vegetables not consumed within 24 hours.
