A liquid solution that has been found to get rid of the skunk odor on people is 1 quart of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of liquid detergent. This solution was invented by Paul Krebaum.

When finished using the Krebaum solution, it is important to dilute the mixture heavily with water before disposing of it. Leaving a container of the solution covered could be dangerous as the mixture can become violatile and explode a sealed container because a build up of gases. In addition to the solution developed by Paul Krebaum, there are also a number of over the counter remedies for eliminated the skunk odor from humans. Products that contain neutroleum alpha are the best for removing the odor and can normally be found at the local pet store.

There are differing opinions about what removes skunk odor the best. However, one of the most common solutions, washing with large amounts of tomato juice, is a myth. The perceived reduction of the skunk odor when washing with tomato juice is due to the oral fatigue that inflicts the human olfactory glands when they are exposed to large amounts of the skunk smell. Eventually, the glands simply stop registering the skunk odor, which allows the smell of the tomato juice to be more readily detectable.
