The size of an elephant depends on the elephant's age, gender and type; the largest elephant was an adult male African elephant who weighed approximately 24,000 pounds and stood 13 feet tall at the shoulder. Most African elephants stand from 8.2 to 13 feet tall at the shoulder.

An adult male bull savanna elephant can be as tall as 11 feet at the shoulder, weigh about 16,500 pounds and be 30 feet long. A female bull savanna weighs about 7,000 pounds and stands about 8.7 feet at the shoulder.

A male newborn elephant weighs about 265 pounds, and a female newborn tips the scales at 198 to 221 pounds.
