As of August 2015, plans for building huge spice racks are available on websites for Mother Earth News, HGTV and Fake-It Frugal. The Mother Earth News rack is 3 feet wide, 4 feet tall and 3 to 4 inches deep. It has eight shelves.

Mother Earth's rack is made from pre-shaped molding, requiring only minimal skill and equipment. HGTV's built-in spice rack is constructed with wood boards, wood glue and nails to fit between wall studs. The Fake-It Frugal simple plans use only cardboard strips to form a spice rack in a large kitchen drawer, allowing spice containers to lie at a slight angle.
