"GTA: Vice City" is the sixth installment in the video game series "Grant Theft Auto." The games allow players to take on the role of a petty criminal and help him advance through the ranks of organized crime. They are noteworthy for their "sandbox" style of gameplay in which players do not have to follow a linear storyline but rather are allowed to roam freely through the game environment doing small quests and discovering secrets.
Players of "GTA: Vice City" play as Tommy Vercetti, a member of the Forelli Family. The game is set in Vice City, a fictional city which is based heavily on Miami Beach. The main plot involves the fallout from a botched drug deal, and the optional sidequests allow the player to buy businesses, set up a ring of car thieves and run errands for the mafia. The game features dozens of characters, many of whom are voiced by Hollywood stars such as Dennis Hopper, Ray Liotta and Tom Sizemore.
"GTA: Vice City" was originally released in 2002 on the PlayStation 2. Later, versions became available for Xbox and PC. It received almost universally positive reviews from critics. It has sold over 20 million copies and is the forth-highest selling game for the PlayStation 2.
