Yolanda Saldivar shot Latin pop singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez on March 31, 1995 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Saldivar was both the founder of the Selena fan club as well as a manager of one of Selena's boutiques.

Shortly before she killed Quintanilla-Pérez, Saldivar was about to lose her position at the boutique after embezzling money from the company. She arranged a meeting with Quintanilla-Pérez to give her paperwork, became distressed and told Quintanilla-Pérez that she had been raped. Quintanilla-Pérez escorted Saldivar to and from the hospital for an evaluation. Upon their return to Quintanilla-Pérez's hotel, Saldivar shot the singer. Quintanilla-Pérez was taken to the hospital by paramedics, but she died of blood loss hours after the attack.
