Lyric poems, also called sonnets, do rhyme. There are multiple patterns that these type of poems follow depending on what type of sonnet they are, but all of them are rhyming styles. There are two types of sonnets, English and Italian and they both have different rhyming patterns.

The Italian sonnet is two sections, one with set of eight lines and a second set of six lines. The first set of lines has a pattern of abbaabba, while the second set can have one of threes patterns including cdecde, cdccdc or cdedce. In an English sonnet there are three divisions of four lines and one set of two lines. The pattern for English sonnets have a rhyming pattern for each different set of lines.
